One of our clients, an international exploration company with operations in Zambia is looking for a Chief Executive Officer to spearhead the operation.

About the Company
The company is a Zambian-led company exploring for the ore deposits that will become the next generation of new mines in Zambia.
The company is a U.S.-based company exploring around the world for battery metals using proprietary AI to guide exploration decisions. Our business is discovering, defining, expanding, and developing mineral resources, and our objective is to achieve a step-change improvement in exploration success resulting in more tier 1 resources discovered faster, with fewer failures, and with far less exploration capital.
The company is privately held and its investors include institutional asset managers T. Rowe Price and Canada Pension Plan Investments; technology venture capitalists Andreessen Horowitz, Bill Gates’s Breakthrough Energy Ventures, BOND Capital, Standard Investments, and Sam Altman’s Apollo Projects; and leading natural resources companies Equinor, Mitsubishi, and BHP.
The company is building a rapidly growing team of Zambian geologists, operators, and executives to identify, acquire, explore, and develop exploration opportunities and mineral resources drawing upon technology and the expertise of colleagues worldwide.

About the Position
As CEO, you will build and oversee the leading exploration company in Zambia. You will help identify and establish new opportunities, build the teams that run the exploration programs, bring the best of our global capabilities to our projects in Zambia, create a culture that attracts and develops outstanding talent, and represent the company to a wide variety of external stakeholders.

Responsibilities
• Oversight and integration: Look after all operations of the company and affiliated companies; ensure strong scientific and business linkages among different Zambian project teams and between the Zambian operation and the International colleagues globally; bring the highest standards of practice to everything we do
• Team building: Find and recruit outstanding talent for The Zambian operation and affiliated companies; structure teams and create opportunities to best enable the professional development of our colleagues
• Culture: Develop and cultivate a distinctive company culture that shares the scientific methodology and operating company values of the International operation but is adapted to and shaped by Zambian colleagues
• Business development: Identify new business opportunities and help to negotiate terms, execute, and launch new partnerships
• Stakeholder engagement: Serve as the most important and prominent public face of the company within Zambia. Represent the company to government officials, industry groups, joint venture partners, suppliers, and communities

Qualifications
You must have:
• At least 15 years of professional private sector experience, including:
o At least 5 years of experience in the mining or mineral exploration industry
o At least 3 years in a senior executive role at a company
• A strong track record of building high-performing teams
• Strong connections in the Zambian business community
• Familiarity with relevant government institutions and their leaders and key staff members
• Experience leading teams distributed across multiple locations
• Willingness to start new projects and grow new teams from scratch with little guidance
• A desire to be constantly learning new things; deep intellectual curiosity and drive to understand all aspects of the Zambian operation and the international operation.
• Enjoyment in working with people in a wide variety of disciplines and different parts of the world
It is helpful but not required to have:
• International professional experience and/or education
• Experience with mineral asset transactions, especially for exploration-stage projects (option and earn-in agreements, joint venture agreements)
• Experience with mineral tenure management and relevant laws and regulations in Zambia
• A bachelor’s or advanced degree in geoscience, mining engineering, or related discipline
