Crucible is an initiative to catalyse the creation of 100 world-class schools for remarkable
teenagers across Sub-Saharan Africa by 2045. Through these schools, we plan to have a
transformational impact on African economies in the 21st Century, substantially expanding
the quantity of outstanding future African leaders. Great secondary education is a necessary precondition for rapid development. Countries which have experienced the most rapid economic development always have well-educated leaders in all sectors of their economies. Such leaders overcome other barriers to development in even the most challenging of circumstances.
The first Crucible school, Crucible Lusaka, will launch in Zambia in January 2025, initially
educating senior secondary students before a later expansion to junior secondary. Students will sit Cambridge International A level examinations in preparation for entry to top global universities.
They will study a focussed (examined) STEM curriculum alongside Crucible’s (unexamined) Arts curriculum. They will develop deep leadership skills through a range of extra-curricular activities in a boarding school environment.
Role Objectives
We are looking for a special teacher that can develop and deliver a bespoke Liberal Arts
curriculum, creating a template for future schools that enables our students to develop their
understanding of themselves as individuals and their place in the world.
Although the first Crucible school will be STEM-focused in the examined subjects, the wider liberal arts curriculum is an essential part of the students’ education.The arts curriculum will not be exhaustive, but rather introduce students to the world of culture and ideas helping students understand their layered identities as Zambians, as Africans and as global citizens, and the rights and responsibilities which come along with these.
You will work with external collaborators including arts groups to go beyond your own experiences and expertise to develop courses from a range of subject areas, including:
● African history
● Contemporary African literature and poetry
● Archaeology and anthropology
● Music
● Performing arts
● Visual arts
● Ethics / moral philosophy
● Literature
● Digital media

Academic
● Excellent subject knowledge in your specialist area.
● Plan and deliver high-quality lessons, which include stretch and challenge and take into

very best.
● Monitor, assess and report on pupil progress, including the use of assessment for learning
as a means of encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their learning.
● Encourage links with other subjects across the curriculum.

Required
● Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject
● Recognised Teaching qualification
● Minimum of four year’s teaching experience
Preferred
● Master’s level education related
● Experience working internationally
● Experience working in a boarding school
● Experience supporting students achieving entry into elite universities
