Job description:
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
• The Superintend – Social Performance will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of social performance strategies, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, and local content initiatives at Kansanshi Mine.
• The suitable candidate will be key in assessing and improving human rights performance, manage the grievance mechanism, evaluate the effectiveness of social programs, and enhance local procurement and recruitment processes in line with regulations.
• The Superintendent will be responsible for developing performance metrics, setting KPIs and objectives, monitoring progress, reviewing social risk register and reporting on social performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE ROLE
• The suitable candidate be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
Social Performance
• Develop and implement social performance strategies aligned with the mine’s policies and community needs.
• Foster and maintain positive relationships with local communities, stakeholders, and governmental bodies.
• Address social concerns through effective communication and intervention strategies.
• Review, identify and update the social risk register periodically.
Grievance Management and Human Rights
• Oversight the grievance management process to address concerns from employees, local communities, and other stakeholders timely and efficiently.
• Monitor the effectiveness of grievance management process and ensure grievances are handled in a fair, timely, and transparent manner.
• Operationalize company’s Human Rights Policy at the site level in various areas, including community and environmental impacts, Labour rights, security impacts, resettlement and modern slavery.
• Conduct internal human rights risk assessments to identify and address risks in supply chain, security practices, Labour rights and socio-environmental impacts.

Local Content
• Initiate and oversee programs promoting local content in recruitment, procurement, and service provision.
• Collaborate with local businesses and suppliers to encourage participation in project opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with local content regulations and provide reports to management and relevant authorities.
• Organize workshops, training, and capacity-building programs for local communities to enhance their skills and employability.
• Support the development of local artisans and business enterprises related to mining operations.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Environmental, Community Health, and Occupational Health & safety departments, to ensure integrated approaches to community development.
• Engage with NGOs, local government, and other external stakeholders to align community programs with broader development goals.

Monitoring and Evaluation
• Design and implement M&E frameworks to assess the impact of social and community initiatives.
• Conduct regular surveys to gauge mood of communities and stakeholders and develop strategies to improve relations and mitigate social risks.
• Collect, analyze and report on data related to social performance programs.
• Prepare comprehensive reports on social performance and community engagement activities for management review.
• Maintain accurate records of community feedback, project outcomes, and stakeholder engagements.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB)Social Sciences, Community Development, Environmental Studies, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in social performance, monitoring and evaluation, and local content within the mining or extractive industry.
• Familiarity with rural communities in North Western province is an asset.
