Job description:
Purpose
The Grievance and Human Rights Coordinator will be responsible for oversighting the grievance mechanism to address employee and community complaints and improve company’s human rights performance.

Key Responsibilities
This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
• Ownership of the grievance management, inclusive of continuous improvement of the grievance mechanisms to ensure effective grievance management to address concerns from employees, local communities, and other stakeholders.
• Introduce the grievance mechanism to communities and stakeholders, incorporating their reasonable expectations into the process, and translate it into local languages as needed.
• Develop policies and procedures to Ensure grievances are handled in a fair, timely, and transparent manner.
• Ensure the grievance mechanism is culturally appropriate, confidential when requested, easily accessible to all communities, especially in remote rural areas, by developing effective communication channels.
• Collect statistics on the grievance system KPIs, monitor their progress and strive to improve the overall grievance system performance.
• Operationalize company’s Human Rights Policy at the site level in various areas, including community and environmental impacts, labour rights, security impacts, resettlement and modern slavery.
• Conduct internal human rights risk assessments to identify and address risks in supply chain, security practices, labour rights and socio-environmental impacts.
• Monitor the implementation of human rights policies within company operations and supply chains.
• Prepare regular reports on human rights issues, grievance trends, and resolutions, presenting findings to management and stakeholders.
• Engage with local communities, NGOs, suppliers, contractors and other stakeholders to raise awareness of grievance procedures and human rights practices.
• Facilitate community meetings and discussions to ensure open communication lines and build trust.
• Develop and deliver training programmes for employees on human rights standards, grievance processes, and community engagement.
• Educate staff on recognizing potential human rights violations and the importance of reporting them.
• Ensure compliance with local and international human rights standards, laws, and regulations.
• Conduct regular audits of grievance processes and human rights practices, recommending improvements where necessary.
• Act as a liaison during crisis situations involving human rights issues, working to resolve conflicts and mitigate potential risks.
• Collaborate with legal, compliance, and operational teams to address allegations of human rights violations.
• Support the development and implementation of human rights frameworks and strategies aligning with the company’s mission and values.
• Stay updated on international human rights trends and best practices, integrating them into company operations.
• Any other duties as directed by Superiors empowered to exercise authority over him/her.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB), Human Rights, Social Sciences, Law, or a related field; a Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Experience
• Minimum of 3-5 of experience in human rights, community relations, or grievance management, preferably in the mining or extractive industries.
• Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution.
• Familiarity with rural communities in North-western province is an asset

SKILLS
• Strong understanding of human rights standards, including the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Proficient in report writing and data analysis.
• Fluenncy in the local dialect preferably Kaonde and/or Lunda.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to conflict resolution.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The Grievance and Human Rights Coordinator will work in an office setting with occasional field visits to mining sites and community locations and events.
