About the Position
The Trainee Advocate Program at Novus Legal Practitioners is designed to provide recent law graduates with an opportunity to gain practical legal experience as they prepare to qualify as advocates under the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE) program. The role allows trainees to work under the supervision of experienced legal practitioners, developing their skills in legal practice, client management, and professional ethics.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in a professional legal environment while meeting the requirements for admission to the bar.

Key Responsibilities
Trainees will have the opportunity to:
1. Legal Research and Drafting:
o Conduct thorough legal research and prepare legal briefs, pleadings, and opinions under supervision.
o Assist in drafting contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
2. Court Exposure:
o Attend court proceedings and hearings to observe case presentations and advocacy strategies.
o Support senior advocates in preparing case files, exhibits, and submissions for court.
3. Client Engagement:
o Participate in client interviews and consultations to understand legal needs and provide preliminary assistance.
o Maintain proper documentation and client case files.
4. Professional Development:
o Learn and adhere to legal ethics, professional conduct, and court rules.
o Work closely with senior advocates to develop legal reasoning, problem-solving, and advocacy skills.
5. Case Management:
o Assist in managing legal files, tracking progress, and ensuring timely updates on ongoing cases.
o Support teams in administrative tasks, including research, filing, and reporting.

Qualifications and Requirements
• A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized university.
• Recent graduate or awaiting enrollment for the ZIALE program.
• Strong academic record and a demonstrated interest in litigation and legal practice.
• Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong ethical values and commitment to professional growth.
