JOB DETAILS:
Background
African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization founded in 2000 that manages 22 national parks and protected areas in 12 countries covering 20 million hectares. This is achieved through long-term agreements with national governments, putting in place funding solutions and establishing good governance and management to achieve ecological, social and financial sustainability.
Objectives
To develop the existing law enforcement strategy and actions to ensure the capability of the law enforcement team to adequately secure the entire Liuwa Plain National Park and surrounding GMA. The primary coverage area is 3660 km2 and management needs to make sure the strategy to secure this area is appropriate, evolving and efficient.
The LLO will need a deep level of experience (15+ years) in all of these aspects of law enforcement and conservation management in order to fulfil the objectives of this position and ensure that the teams are adequately prepared for the task at hand and develop a strong work ethos and team spirit.

Key Functions
1. Support the Joint Operations Command, through oversight of the Law Enforcement Centre and ensuring the knowledge, mastery and application of AP LE SOPs (Standard Operations Procedures);
2. Manage, coordinate and enhance the current patrol planning and deployment strategy;
3. Manage together with the Park Ranger, design and support the delivery of:
• Basic Field Ranger training
• In service/Refresher training
• Advanced/Specialised training
• Design and run regular scenario training as part of operational capacity development;
4. Supporting planning/briefing, conducting and debriefing of Law Enforcement operations;
5. Follow-up of the judicial process resulting from law enforcement activities;
6. Ensure continuous operational responsiveness through support to LE teams in the implementation of the patrol system and the associated Incentives Schemes;
7. Support to the Intelligence and Investigations components;
8. Supporting the effective management, development and motivation of all law enforcement
personnel;
9. Equipment – procuring, managing and maintaining;
10. Develop and maintain a basic fitness regime for all law enforcement team members.

Qualifications
1. At least 10 years of proven operational experience in the conservation sector, specifically in a
2. large scale protected area environment.
3. A high level of experience with aerial tactical operations;
4. Very good physical condition;
5. Trusted and disciplined person, able to work independently and showing a high level of respect for his staff;
6. Experience working with anti-poaching teams in a protected area inhabited by local communities;
8. A demonstrated team approach to staff management;
9. Solutions cantered with an understanding of the need for confidentiality;
10. Desire to learn;
11. Demonstrated personal interest in the protection of the environment and particularly wildlife;
12. Appropriate tactical judgment in difficult situations;
13. Excellent communication skills;
14. Good ability to write reports;
15. Mastery of communication tools and orientation (GPS, VHF digital, InReach);
16. IT – Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook competent.
