Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Legal Counsel to join our team. The successful candidate will provide expert legal advice, ensure compliance with laws and regulations, draft and review contracts, and manage legal risks for the organisation. This role requires a proactive individual with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple legal matters efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Advice and Support:
Provide timely legal advice and guidance to management and various departments on legal and regulatory matters.
Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations and their implications on the business.
Contract Drafting and Review:
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to ensure the organisation’s interests are protected.
Advise on contract risks and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
Compliance Management:
Ensure the company complies with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
Oversee and advise on corporate governance requirements.
Litigation and Dispute Resolution:
Manage and oversee legal disputes, including liaising with external counsel when necessary.
Represent the organisation in negotiations, mediations, or court proceedings.
Risk Management:
Identify and assess potential legal risks and provide solutions to mitigate them.
Develop and implement strategies to protect the company’s interests and assets.
Training and Awareness:
Conduct training sessions for employees on legal topics, including compliance, ethics, and regulatory changes.
Legal Documentation:
Maintain and organize all legal documentation, ensuring accessibility and confidentiality.
Qualifications and Experience:
Full grade 12 certificate
Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB). A Master’s Degree or post-graduate qualification in Law is an advantage.
Professional Certification: Admission to the bar or equivalent legal qualification.
Must have their qualification verified by ZAQA.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a legal role, preferably in a corporate environment.
Experience in contract negotiation, compliance, and regulatory matters.
Knowledge:
• Strong understanding of local and international laws relevant to the industry.
Familiarity with corporate governance and compliance standards.
• Key Skills and Competencies:
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong negotiation and communication skills (both written and verbal).
Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure.
High ethical standards and professional integrity.
Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills.
Proficiency in legal research and document management tools.
