Who is Fight Inequality Alliance Zambia?
The Fight Inequality Alliance Zambia (FIA Zambia) is a coalition of organizations – among them rural, youth, labor, climate justice, women’s rights, urban, artists, land rights, and social justice movements fighting inequality in Zambia. FIA Zambia works on the premise that the gap between the rich and poor adversely undermines access to social services and the protection of fundamental human rights. FIA Zambia was founded in Lusaka (at the Global Platform Zambia) in September 2018, with the objective to collectively advocate for a more equal and fairer Zambia. The most affected; women, youth, persons living with disability, indigenous groups, and urban poor are on the frontlines of inequality and are at the forefront of our movement. The status quo needs to be reversed for us to achieve the just, equitable, and sustainable country we need. We are coming together to organize for collective solutions to the root causes of the inequality struggles we face, and to leverage our collective strength to #fightinequality. FIA Zambia is building a movement to challenge privilege, counter the excessive concentration of power and wealth in the hands of a small elite, and advance a more just, equal and sustainable world.

Location: Anywhere in Zambia

Purpose:
Fight Inequality Alliance is dedicated to addressing deep-rooted inequalities that persist in our society. In Zambia, these inequalities manifest in various forms, from economic disparities and lack of access to quality healthcare and education to social exclusion and systemic discrimination. The current economic crisis in Zambia has only served to deepen these divides, disproportionately affecting the most vulnerable and marginalized communities.

FIA Zambia is seeking individual consultants who have at least 3 years of documented experience in movement building, coalition formation, and advocacy for equality. Applicants must demonstrate expertise in advocacy and community organizing. Excellent facilitation skills in English are essential. This individual will play a critical role in building a powerful, inclusive movement that amplifies the voices of marginalized communities and leads in the fight against inequality.

As the economic crisis in Zambia continues to worsen, the need for a strong, rooted movement to fight against these inequalities has never been more urgent. Unemployment rates are soaring, inflation is skyrocketing, and essential services are becoming increasingly inaccessible for those who need them most. This has created a situation where the rich continue to thrive while the poor become even more marginalized, leading to a widening gap between different sections of society.

The recent economic challenges, compounded by the impact of a drought, have highlighted the importance of collective action and grassroots mobilization to demand change and hold those in power accountable. The crisis has laid bare the structural inequities that have long existed, exposing how fragile and unequal our systems truly are. It has shown that when crises hit, it is the poorest and most vulnerable who bear the brunt of the impact. This has highlighted the need for a grassroots movement that can advance the fight for equality, ensuring that the voices of the marginalized are heard and their needs addressed.

In this context, the Fight Inequality Alliance recognizes that real, lasting change can only be achieved through the power of collective action. By mobilizing communities, building strong coalitions, and advocating for policy reforms, we aim to create a more just and equitable society. We believe that by coming together and organizing at the grassroots level, we can challenge the status quo, demand accountability from those in power, and work towards a future where everyone, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status, has the opportunity to thrive.

Our mission is not just to address the symptoms of inequality but to tackle its root causes. This involves advocating for fair economic policies, promoting inclusive governance, and ensuring that social services are accessible to all. We are committed to empowering communities to take action, providing them with the tools and support they need to effectively advocate for their rights and drive the change they wish to see. Through solidarity and collective effort, we aim to build a powerful movement that can transform society and create a more equitable world for all.
