JOB DETAILS:
Objective
The objective of the SFM is to ensure the correct implementation of the annual afforestation plans to a high standard. The SFM will be responsible for managing local forestry staff’s day to day performance. The SFM will focus on areas such as Safety, Health, Environment & Quality and production conformances. The SFM will be responsible for firefighting preparedness, initial attach and mop up operations.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the SFM include:
1. Develop and implement a Forest Management Plan (FMP) for all existing and future plantations.
2. Oversee and actively manage all forestry operations including silviculture, harvesting and nursery operations.
3. Management of fire season preparations, controlled burning operations, and active fire situations.
4. Management of the nursery staff to ensure seedling production meets annual operation plans.
5. Ensuring effective communication with all members of CFC, offering support, assistance and mentoring in order to achieve the organizational objectives.
6. Drive outsourcing in all operations; contractor performance and engagement
7. Ensure accurate reporting and record keeping by staff on a daily, weekly and monthly basis tracking key production and operational metrics.
8. Set annual, monthly operational targets with CFC senior management.
9. Monitoring and controlling work quality of foresters and plantation managers as well taking necessary actions to ensure that all contractor work is completed to correct standard.
10. Direct operational activities and maintain track of key metrics related to forestry operations (Harvesting, planting, thinning, pruning, weeding etc. as per annual plan of operations)
11. Manage budgets.
12. Ensure on-time and on-budget performance of Forest operations.
13. Identifying and rectifying plantation production problems.
14. Overseeing and maintaining health and safety standards in the forest operations.
15. Developing the human resource of the forest operations, through development of succession plans and training personnel.
16. Any other duties assigned by the GM.

Management Duties
The SFM will be responsible for all silvicultural, harvesting and roading operations within CFC’s business units.

Candidate Profile/Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in Forestry (or similar)
• 10+ years of experience in forest operations (silviculture and harvesting)
• Fluent in written and spoken English
• Understanding of business process and management, requirements and dynamics
• High degree of integrity and honesty in all dealings
• Excellent analytical, interpersonal and organizational communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure
• Full driver’s license
