JOB DETAILS:
Bartimaeus Initiative is a Zambian-registered non-governmental organization. The initiative has been established to foster the inclusion of the disabled into societal opportunities. There are a lot of societal barriers still prevalent in Zambia today that contribute to several challenges faced by people with disabilities. These barriers include limited accessibility, inadequate educational structures, and limited exposure to technological aids, which negatively impact the quality of life for people with disabilities. Such factors often lead to undesirable consequences for people with disabilities, such as social exclusion, negative stereotypes and perceptions, financial hardship, limited choices, and challenges in the areas of both physical and mental health.
Under Bartimaeus Initiative is the Bartimaeus ICT program, with the main focus being to bridge the ICT skills gap that exists between the visually impaired and abled learners in primary and secondary schools in Zambia. Complementing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, and SDG 10.2, which aims to promote the social, economic, and political inclusion of all people by 2030.
Volunteers only work 2 hrs on Monday and 2 hrs on Friday after 13 hrs. Work station is Munali Secondary School.
Responsibilities
• Conduct ICT training to visually impaired learners.
• Update progression tracker for tracking visually impaired pupil’s development.
• Update the feedback and complaint report
• Update the daily activity report
• Coordinate program integrated activities (Counselling, Financial literacy, Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health)
• Partner engagements
Qualification
Tertiary Education – Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Education or Social Science with Special education has added advantage.
Skills
• High attention to detail
• Produce work with a high level of accuracy
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
